UNIT TOPIC / DESCRIPTION
1. Algebra Basics: Students will apply and extend previous knowledge of the real number system, properties of real numbers, order of operations/ absolute values, evaluating expressions, simplifying expressions using distributive property, solving 2 step equations/ inequalities and graphing inequalities.
2. Multistep Equations and Inequalities: Students will analyze steps for solving and/or graphing multistep equations, absolute value equations and inequalities and will apply their knowledge to real world situations. Students will also solve literal equations.
3. Relations and functions: Students will analyze relations and will determine whether they are a function or not. They will also be able to identify the domain and range of a given relation in various forms. Students will use function notation and be able to evaluate an expression using that notation. Students will be able to find the zero(s) of a given function and will learn about Arithmetic Sequences and how they apply to real world situations.
4. Linear Equations: Students will analyze linear equations to determine their slope, x and y-intercepts and will be able to convert linear functions to different forms. They will also be able to apply their knowledge of linear functions to real world situations. Students will also learn how to analyze and interpret Scatter Plots.
5. Systems of Equations/ Inequalities: Students will solve various systems of equations and inequalities using graphing, substitution and elimination. They will also be able to apply their knowledge of systems to real world situations.
6. Exponent Rules: Students will apply properties of exponents to various problems involving exponents. Students will understand the relationship between exponents and roots.
7. Polynomials and Factoring: Students will classify, add, subtract, multiply and divide polynomials. They will also learn how to factor different cases of polynomials.
8. Quadratic Equations: Students will analyze a parabola and find different characteristics of it. They will learn how to solve a quadratic by factoring and other methods.
9. Statistics: Students will analyze and interpret data. They will be able to find the mean, median, mode, range, quartiles and interquartile range of various data.
